ADELAIDE, South Australia – Kleinfelder’s South Australia office, along with energy client Flinders Power, have been announced as winner of the Australasian Land & Groundwater Association (ALGA) 2019 Industry Excellence Awards Best Remedial Project (<$1M).
The project involved the remediation of the first decommissioned Australian facility of its kind. The project encompassed remediation work spanning 8 remediation areas; excavation of over 3,000m3 of impacted soils relating to legacy spills and leaks; sustainably treating the excavated material for reuse on-site; production of all reports to track progress; dealing with community and media interest; and obtaining regulatory acceptance within 18 months.
Kleinfelder’s Project Manager, Alex Savaglia, stated, “This is great recognition for a project that I considered to be a dream job. The award recognises the effort and dedication of the whole team, and I thank Flinders Power for recognising the dedication, planning, and commitment the Kleinfelder team put into this project.”
Damien Skinner, Kleinfelder’s Victoria and South Australia Area Manager, commented, “I applaud Alex and the South Australia team for bringing their A-game to this project. Not only did they achieve the client’s objective of leaving this site ready and suitable for ongoing commercial use, they are now also supporting the new owner with post-remediation monitoring and environmental approvals for the site’s future development. Well done team!”
