Kleinfelder provides ongoing bushfire planning, design, and approval certification services to the Greater Newcastle Land Developments Group for a 33 lot subdivision. The subdivision approval required an initial bushfire assessment and designated mitigations to the subdivision design.

Meeting Established Standards

This assessment served as a component of the approval certification process. Following subdivision approval, development proposals for each lot were required to show how it could conform to the New South Wales bushfire planning guidelines and the building standards (AS3959-2009).

Streamlining the Approval Process

A process was designed and streamlined through our GIS and reporting structure. The bushfire risk to each lot is understood via the original assessment, and the proponent would request an individual site Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) assessment. Kleinfelder prepared a template report that would be forwarded to Council or the private certifier as a part of the Development Application process.

Project Results

Kleinfelder’s work provided certainty to the Council to approve both the subdivision design and individual property BAL’s assessment, satisfying the proponent, the land buyer and ensuring house design conforms to AS 3959-2009 standards.
