Kleinfelder’s Los Angeles Area Hosts E-Waste Drive in Partnership with human-I-T

LOS ANGELES, California – Kleinfelder’s Los Angeles Area piloted an e-waste recycling campaign, making a positive impact on the environment and community while developing a framework for other Kleinfelder offices interested in hosting e-waste drives.

Combining their passion for social and environmental stewardship, the Los Angeles Area partnered with human-I-T, a nonprofit organization that provides refurbished technology to low income families and others in-need, to host an e-waste recycling drive.  Coordinated out of the Riverside office, unwanted computers, printers, screens, and other electronics were collected from staff in Kleinfelder’s five Los Angeles Area offices over the course of a month.  The dedicated team filled an entire pallet with e-waste that human-I-T will refurbish and/or recycle.

In addition to giving employees a means to dispose of unwanted electronics safely and at no cost, the e-waste recycling drive helped reduce Kleinfelder’s carbon footprint by minimizing waste generation and maximizing reuse. The Los Angeles Area’s consolidated donation of e-waste diverted over 555 pounds of waste from our landfills.  Moreover, by partnering with human-I-T, Kleinfelder was able to help low-income families gain access to computers, free or low-cost internet, and Digital Literacy Training.
