Kleinfelder has been engaged by Essendon Fields Pty Ltd, who is responsible for the ongoing operation and management of the landside and airside operations at Essendon Airport, to provide a full range of environmental advisory services. Kleinfelder’s work is focused on mitigating potential environmental risks to surrounding waterways, on-site soils, and underlying groundwater from operations at the Airport.

Following Regulations

The Essendon Airport site sits on Commonwealth Land. Therefore, assessments, including preliminary and detailed site investigations (PSIs and DSIs), baseline environmental site assessments for subtenants prior to the commencement and end of lease, and compliance assessments such as the biannual stormwater quality assessment, must adhere to the specific regulatory requirements of the Commonwealth Airports Act 1996 and the Airports (Environment Protection) Regulations 1997.

Lightening the Load

Kleinfelder serves as our client’s on-site Environmental Representative, advising them of their regulatory obligations. This includes development of sitewide Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and Operations Environmental Management Plan (OEMP) frameworks. Kleinfelder has also monitored contractor and tenant compliance within these frameworks; conducted assessments and prepared soil management requirements for new development sites; and continues to provide ongoing advise to the client on sitewide waste soil movement and management.

Project Results

Kleinfelder’s close working relationship allows our client to have a reliable and capable Environmental Representative who understands and can address many issues across the Essendon Airport site. For the past 4 years, Kleinfelder has identified and minimised potential risks for the client and ensured their adherence and compliance with Commonwealth and State regulations. As a result, no breaches in environmental compliance have been recorded during their contract with Kleinfelder.
