As part of the approval for a subdivision development, Kleinfelder was engaged to undertake creek line weed control and revegetation along a section that was redirected. The creek line was reshaped, with installation of jute matting and approximately 11,000 native plants.
Preventing the Jute Matting from Being Pushed Down
The creek line was at the base of a catchment and, during large rainstorm events, a large volume of water would flow through the creek. The major challenge of this project is the jute matting getting washed down the creek line by the water.
An Innovative Resolution
To remedy this problem, the middle section of the jute matting was cut away. Coir logs and rock were installed to slow the flow of water down the creek line, that will then allow the plants to successfully establish.
Project Results
Kleinfelder’s work enabled our client to fulfill their approval for the development to proceed, while mitigating risk of creek damage and avoiding potential repair costs. To address our client’s requirements, the creek banks were stabilised with the rock, and the creek line was fully revegetated with native plants.
