During construction of a new bridge located at Quorrobolong, New South Wales, a temporary road bridge was constructed as an alternative creek crossing. At the completion of the construction, the Cessnock Council removed the temporary bridge, leaving the supporting pylons. This area required urgent slope stabilization and revegetation, as the creek is known to flood during high rainfall events.
Minimising Impact to the Creek
Kleinfelder was engaged to remove one pylon, reshape the bank, install jute matting and surface drainage, and revegetate the area. These works had to be undertaken with minimal impact on the creek.
Reshaping the Creek Bank
Kleinfelder used a nine-tonne excavator to carefully remove a pylon and reshape the creek bank. Following this work, our team successfully installed jute matting and surface diversion drains.
Project Results
Kleinfelder’s work helped successfully stabilize the banks of the creek line to prevent soil erosion. Moreover, our approach enabled our client to avoid any major, costly renovation, while also maintaining the creek’s water quality and minimizing impact to the local community and its residents.
