The Moolarben Coal Project is a significant coal asset covering 110 square kilometres with an estimated 380 million tonnes of export-grade thermal coal.

Timely Construction Commencement

Following the grant of Project Approval for Stage 1 of the Moolarben Coal Project, it was imperative the construction commenced immediately to ensure the asset realized its potential as soon as possible and yielded a return on the substantial investments made during the exploration and approvals phase.

Quickly Mobilising the Right Resources

Kleinfelder worked with the Moolarben environmental manager to develop an Environmental Management System and a series of management plans aimed at enabling construction activities to commence as soon as possible. Operational plans would be developed whilst construction was underway. Working with a team of noise, air quality, and water resource specialists, Kleinfelder generated a series of management plans and gained approval from New South Wales (NSW) Planning.

Project Results

Approval of the construction environmental management plans (EMPs) by NSW planning authorities enabled our client to commence construction. Kleinfelder was able to assist Moolarben Coal from the start of exploration through project and management plan approval, generating first coal—and revenue—ahead of schedule.
