Kleinfelder was engaged to implement an existing five-year vegetation management plan (VMP) for a 263-lot residential development. In addition to this, Kleinfelder was requested to undertake additional planting of 3000 tree species to assist the client in attaining development approval. The VMP details the management and restoration of native offset areas and creek line within the 30-hectare development.

Implementing the VMP

Kleinfelder’s bush regeneration team focused their efforts on treating numerous weed species using recommended techniques for each species to ensure effective eradication results and planting supplementary native plants to promote natural regeneration. Continuing to follow the VMP, the team will conduct ecological monitoring each quarter for the first year and then annually thereafter to assess the quality and biodiversity of the site and the success of the weed management eradication activities.

Additional Work to Achieve Council Approval

To assist our client in securing Council approval to progress the development site, Kleinfelder’s bush regeneration team worked to achieve the Council directive to increase the number of canopy trees within the creek line zone. Staged planting of 3000 canopy trees has commenced within the identified zone.

Project Results

Recent monitoring of the regeneration work showed that the additional planting of canopy tree species within the creek line was successful and the primary and secondary weed treatment work had reduced weed coverage to less than 10% within the managed areas.

Kleinfelder will continue to actively manage the rehabilitated areas of the site for a period of fve years.
