As part of the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP), which aims to eliminate 110 level crossings throughout Melbourne by 2030 to improve safety and reduce congestion, the Department of Transport and Planning engaged Kleinfelder to conduct Preliminary Site Investigations (PSIs) at newly acquired sites.
Historic Location
The acquired sites were located within historic industrial development areas, known to have housed petrochemical facilities since the 1960s. Decades of industrial activities in neighbouring sites contributed to a wide range of diverse site conditions and a broad range of contaminants of concern. As such, in-depth investigations and clear reporting were essential to meet the needs of numerous property owners and stakeholders.
Developing A Standardised Reporting Strategy
To simplify navigation for the LXRP yet effectively address the diverse historical industrial activities and contaminants of concern unique to each site, Kleinfelder developed a standardised reporting format. After initial review and incorporation of client feedback on the first report, the refined format was adopted for the remaining seven sites. This approach streamlined the reporting process and ensured consistency, allowing subsequent reports to be delivered with no further comments required from the client.
Project Results
Understanding the client’s need for consistency, Kleinfelder developed a standardised reporting approach that addressed the unique historical activities and contaminants at each site. By engaging the client early and proactively refining the reporting format, Kleinfelder achieved a faster report turnaround, reduced client review time, and achieved cost efficiencies across the project.
