Kleinfelder recently completed the Geotechnical and Contamination Investigation of a proposed 3,000 square metre (m2) commercial development project, providing the client with information on allowable bearing pressure, soil classification for earthquake design, recommended footing types and pavement, site contamination, and potential waste classification.

Project Specifications

Kleinfelder’s geotechnical team supervised the drilling of 10 boreholes, up to 10 metres below ground level, all geotechnical and environmental sampling, and field tests including:

  • Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP)
  • Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
  • Pocket Penetrometer (PP)

Project Challenges

The project site was on a busy 24/7 operational facility which brought a number of key project challenges, including minimising client disruption while ensuring a safe environment for everyone on site. Effective early communication with the client’s operational staff informed the development of a comprehensive safety plan, and Kleinfelder successfully managed to limit any interruption to site operations while providing a completely safe environment for both the site investigation team and client’s employees.

Project Results

Kleinfelder conducted all site investigation and testing in accordance with AS 1726 and AS 1289. Geotechnical analysis and assessment and pavement design were completed in accordance with AS 2870, AS 1170, AS 2159 and AGPT02. Contamination analysis assessment were completed in accordance with SA EPA standards.

Kleinfelder adhered to all safety requirements and standard procedures and met all deadlines associated with the project.
